Why Memory & Storage Prices Are Rising — And How This Affects our Ascension Gaming Systems

Over the past few months, many customers have noticed something unusual in the PC hardware market: memory (RAM) and storage (SSD) prices are increasing rather than decreasing. This goes against the long-standing trend where components typically become cheaper over time.
Unfortunately, these changes are not short-term or isolated. They reflect a broader shift in the global technology supply chain — and they are now impacting custom PC builds, including our Ascension Gaming Systems.
This article explains why prices are rising, what’s driving the change, and how we’ve worked hard to minimise the impact for our customers.
📈 Why Are Memory & Storage Prices Increasing?
1. AI Demand Has Transformed the Market
One of the biggest factors behind rising prices is the rapid growth of artificial intelligence (AI). Modern AI systems require enormous amounts of high-speed memory and fast storage, and large tech companies are buying these components in vast quantities.
As a result, memory manufacturers are prioritising production for AI servers and data centres rather than consumer PCs. This shift has significantly reduced the supply available for everyday systems.
2. Manufacturers Are Focusing on High-Margin Products
Major memory producers such as Samsung, Micron, and SK Hynix have redirected much of their production capacity toward specialised memory used in AI and enterprise environments.
While this makes sense for manufacturers, it means less DDR4, DDR5, and consumer SSD supply, pushing prices higher across the board.
3. Reduced Stock Levels & Tight Supply
In previous years, memory production was scaled back due to oversupply. When demand suddenly increased again, there was very little surplus stock available to absorb the change.
This has created a tight market where prices rise quickly and stay elevated.
4. Capacity Expansion Takes Years
Unlike some components, memory production cannot be ramped up quickly. New fabrication plants take years and billions of pounds to build, meaning supply shortages cannot be solved overnight.
💻 How This Affects our Ascension Gaming Systems
At Advanced systems, we’ve always worked hard to offer the best possible performance at fair and competitive prices. Over the past year, we have actively absorbed rising component costs wherever possible to avoid passing increases on to our customers.
However, ongoing and sustained price rises in RAM and SSDs now mean this is no longer feasible.
What We’ve Done to Protect Customers
Held pricing steady for as long as possible
Optimised component sourcing and supplier relationships
Reduced margins where we could without compromising quality
Avoided unnecessary price changes during peak demand periods
Despite these efforts, the continued increases in memory and storage costs now directly affect the cost of building our systems.
📌 Why Price Adjustments Are Now Necessary
Memory and storage are core components in every Ascension Gaming System. With double-digit percentage increases in some RAM and SSD costs, continuing to hold prices would compromise the sustainability of our builds and the level of quality we stand for.
As a result:
Some Ascension Gaming Systems will see modest price increases
Any changes reflect real component cost increases, not added profit
Performance, build quality, and support remain unchanged
We remain fully committed to transparency and value.
🛒 What This Means for Customers
If you’re considering purchasing or upgrading a system:
Buying sooner may help avoid further increases
Current pricing reflects the best value possible in the current market
Our team is always happy to advise on cost-effective configurations
We continue to monitor component pricing closely and will adjust pricing downward if and when the market stabilises.
🤝 Our Commitment Going Forward
Rising memory and storage prices are an industry-wide challenge, not something unique to us While we regret having to make pricing adjustments, we believe honesty and transparency with our customers is essential.
We’d like to thank all our customers — new and returning — for your continued support. Your trust allows us to keep building high-quality gaming systems even in challenging market conditions.
